On Sunday evening June 27, 2010 the FHS Hall of Fame honored the 1956-1957 Fairhaven High School Football Team coached to a 6-2 record by legendary Coach Mel Entin. The team was presented by Gil Santos ‘56. Pictured in the photo (L-R) are: Gerry Razon, Ken Lanoue, Paul Goulet, Ed Monteiro, Danny Santos, Abbie Teixeira, Pete Mendell, Lew Jenney, Bob Botelho, Andy Martin, Sonny Blanchette, Perry Faria, and Anthime Brunette.
The following description, written by Dennis Duval ’57, was originally published in the 1957 Fairhaven High School Yearbook, the Huttlestonian.
The 1956 football season was the most triumphant in many years for the Blue of F.H.S. The team sparked by Seniors: Danny Santos, Ed Monteiro, John Arruda, Abby Teixeira, Co-captains Louie Jenney and Pete Mendell gave many thrills throughout the season to the spirited fans who turned out to cheer the boys. The team had a 6-2 won-lost record and rolled up a total of 117 pints for a 14.5 game average. The defense also deserves much credit for its great playing during the season. They allowed the opposition only 38 points for an impressive average of 4.75 a game and shut out Darmouth, Voke, New Bedford and Coyle. In the traditional big game with New Bedford, the team racked up the biggest margin ever achieved against the boys in red in the many years of this great high school football classic.
Congratulations to the entire team for the fine season they had. Good Luck!
