The 27th Annual Light-a-Light fundraiser officially kicks off on Thursday, November 3, 2011 when the annual FHS Alumni issue of THE ADVOCATE will go into the mail to over 6000 FHS alums across the country. This fundraiser is the major source of revenue that the FHS Alumni Association Board of Directors uses to fund a number of valuable projects during the course of the year. In the 2010 Light-a-Light Campaign $22,045 was received from 819 donors from across the country. Those names will be published in the Light-a-Light issue.
The funds were used to support $13,313 worth of Teacher Mini-Grants at Fairhaven High School, as well as to fund several scholarships, and support various restoration projects. The Teacher Mini-Grants have become welcomed by the teachers and administrators of Fairhaven High School during a time when school department budgets are very tight. Some of the materials being purchased with these grants includes over $9,000 for eight Mimios (technology that transforms an ordinary whiteboard into a wireless interactive whiteboard with which a teacher can import lessons from a laptop and actively engage students in their lessons). The mini-grants also funded $1,000 for the purchase of two Epson Powerlite Projectors for the Special Education Dept., as well as three Amazon Kindles and 19 electronic books for that department. A grant of $2,000 was given to the Science Department for the purchase of a PASCO Absorption Spectrophotometer and a system for Xplorer GLX.
