The Board of Directors of the FHS Alumni Association extends its heartfelt thanks to the 690 alumni and friends of Fairhaven High School who contributed a total of $18,250 that made the 25th annual Light-a-Light campaign the most successful drive since the very first year (1985). Once again the Class of 1948 led all classes with 62 donations, while the Class of 1961 donated the largest amount of money ($1,450).
Other classes that deserve recognition are the Classes of 1959 and 1961 which each had 28 members donating to the effort, and the Classes of 1954 and 1964 which each had 27 classmates make contributions. The Board of Directors of the FHS Alumni Association are thrilled with the response to the 2009 Light-a-Light campaign, especially in light of the tough economic times. In the 25 years of Light-a-Light we have received contributions totaling $295,000. We recognize that we are fortunate to have a loyal and generous alumni base that respond each year to the only fundraiser that we conduct. As we have stated many times, all of the monies raised from this one fundraiser go directly to Fairhaven High School in the form of restoration projects, student scholarships, and most recently directly to programs such as Teacher Mini-Grants, computers for a new lab in the new FHS Alumni Technology Wing, and new books and computer tables for the Media Center/Library in the old round gymnasium.
The Fairhaven High School Alumni Association is a registered non-profit corporation that has virtually no administrative expenses. We are totally run by volunteers and we are indebted to generous alumni such as Ed Hebert ‘86 who constructed our tremendous website for us (http://www.fairhavenalumni.org) and donates his technical expertise to assist us in sending out our e-newsletters every other month for a minuscule cost. One of the most rewarding aspects of being involved on the Board of Directors is witnessing the tremendous response we get from our fellow alums when we host events such as the Evening of Taste on the Friday evening of Homecoming Weekend each year, and the positive feedback that we receive from alums from across the country regarding the support that we are giving to Fairhaven High School. The students, faculty and administration of Fairhaven High School are thrilled with the support that we have given them, especially in these tough financial times .
