Stained Glass Windows

To date, there have been seven Fairhaven High School classes that have hung unique stained glass windows, designed and created by artist Susan Berberian ’73.  These windows are located in the windows of the Rotunda at Fairhaven High School that connects the original 1906 building with the 1999 addition to the high school.

The classes of 1948, 1954, 1960, 1961, 1963, 1966 and 1973 have already donated these beautiful stained glass windows, each with its own theme, in honor of their classes, and several other classes are in the process of working with Susan Berberian.  The classes of 1957, 1959, 1960 and 1966 have started the process with Fairhaven High School and the artist.

There are several more windows available in the Rotunda where future stained glass windows can be hung. The process can take up to two years to complete and Susan can only complete a maximum of two windows in any one year.  The project can be taken on by a class as a long range project.  For example, if your class has a reunion coming up in 3 or 4 years, a window can be reserved and consultations begun with the artist while fundraising is undertaken.

In order to reserve a window in Fairhaven High School to hang a stained glass window from your class, the following steps must be taken:

  1. Indicate your interest by meeting with the Principal of F.H.S. to discuss details and reserve a window.
  2. Once a window is assigned to a class, a non-refundable deposit of $250 (payable to the artist) is required within 30 days. At that time Susan Berberian will begin the concept phase of the process.
  3. The concept must be approved by the Stained Glass Committee.
  4. After approval, an additional $500 must be paid to the artist to begin the “sketch / design phase” of the project.
  5. After the design is reviewed with the class, an additional $500 must be paid to the artist to begin the “construction phase” of the project.
  6. The balance of the total cost will be paid to the artist upon completion of the stained glass window.  (Total cost will vary based on complexity, color and glass choices made, as well as other variables.)
